Mickey Munch

dsc_1407RECIPE #324, DAY #516

THREE STARS

ORIGINAL RECIPE: “Mickey Mouse Trail Mix” from online Trips with Tikes blog*

TIMING: 5 minutes

DIFFICULTY: Easy

TOOLS: None

COOK TYPE: None

HEALTH: There are worse snacks, even though this contains marshmallows. To help things out, I used natural marshmallows and candies. It’s likely you’ll use Jet Puft and M&Ms, but at least there will be pretzels, raisins, and optional peanuts.

EXPERIENCE: This was one of the snacks I put out at my daughter’s Disney birthday party. I found the recipe on Pinterest, of course.

This snack was a bit lackluster, but it would probably be okay for a road trip with kids (especially, as suggested, to Disney World or Land). However, because of the marshmallows, it does not hold up well. (The marshmallows harden and the pretzels soften.) I wouldn’t keep it more than a day or so.

NOTES: You can substitute 1 cup of waffle cereal (like rice or honey nut) for 1 cup of the pretzels. I just didn’t see how that fit with the theme, but I’m betting it worked out well. The picture looked cute.

  1. In a bowl or bag, combine 3 cups pretzels (the kind that look like Mickey Mouse), 1 cup mini marshmallows, optional 3/4 cup roasted peanuts, 1/2 cup dark raisins, and 1/2 cup red and yellow M&Ms.

***

Serve to your kids on the way to Orlando. With a juice box or milk box.
