Slow Cooker Mulled Wine

dsc_1587RECIPE #342, DAY #522

FOUR STARS

ORIGINAL RECIPE: “Mulled Wine” from Robin Robertson’s Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker*

TIMING: 4 hours

DIFFICULTY: Easy

TOOLS: Nothing

COOK TYPE: Crockpot/slow cooker

HEALTH: They used to consider this a panacea of sorts. Nerves? Fatigue? Sleeplessness? Have some mulled wine. I’m okay with that, at least in moderation.

dsc_1588EXPERIENCE: Mulled wine is right up my alley. I love wine. I love red wine. And warm with spices? Totally great for a chilly, bleak day. And so very European and Renaissance. However, it tends to put me right to sleep.

NOTES: This feels like it wastes an orange. I have also made it where I cut the orange in half. You could squeeze out the juice before serving, although it’s likely to make the drink more cloudy.

***

  1. Press 12 cloves into an orange and set in the bottom of your crockpot with 4 cinnamon sticks, 3/4 cup brown sugar, and 2 bottles dry red wine. Stir to dissolve.
  2. Cook on low for 4 hours. Serve hot.

***

Serve with Christmas hors d’oeuvres, like a cheese ball and sausages.
